How Much Does Aircraft Cleaning Cost in the UK?

• 5 min read

It’s one of the first things owners and operators ask us, and it’s a fair question. The honest answer is that there’s no single price for aircraft cleaning in the UK. A quick wipe-down of a light jet and a full detail of a long-range business jet are very different jobs, and most of the difference comes down to a handful of things you can see for yourself.

This aircraft cleaning cost UK guide explains what affects the cost of aircraft cleaning and detailing, so you know what you’re paying for and how to get the most from your budget.

Aircraft cleaning cost UK: our starting prices

In the UK, our aircraft cleaning starts from £1,000 for an exterior wash and £1,500 for an interior deep clean, depending on the aircraft’s size and condition.

  • Exterior wash: from £1,000
  • Interior deep clean: from £1,500

These are starting prices for an aircraft in reasonable condition. The final price depends on the size of the aircraft, its condition and the package you choose, so a larger jet, or one that needs more work, will cost more. We survey the aircraft before confirming the price in writing, and we always give you a maximum up front, so the price never goes above what we’ve quoted.

Aircraft cleaning cost UK: what affects the price?

1. The size of the aircraft

This is the biggest factor. More fuselage, wing and tail means more hours of work outside, and a bigger cabin means more seats, carpet and fittings inside. A light jet such as a Phenom 300 takes a fraction of the time of a large-cabin jet like a Challenger 605 or a Bombardier Global.

2. The condition it’s in

An aircraft that’s cleaned regularly needs far less work than one that’s gone months without attention. Heavy exhaust soot, built-up insects on the leading edges, stained carpets, worn leather or a lingering odour all add time. That’s why we always look at the aircraft before confirming a price.

3. What you want done

There’s a big difference between cleaning and detailing. Cleaning removes everyday dirt and keeps the aircraft presentable. Detailing goes further, correcting and protecting the paint and bringing tired surfaces back to life. Our guide to aircraft cleaning vs aircraft detailing explains the difference in more detail.

4. Interior, exterior or both

Most jobs fall into three parts: an interior deep clean, an exterior wash, and an exterior detail. You can book them separately or together. Doing them together usually works out better value, because the set-up, access and travel are shared.

5. Wet wash or dry wash

Many UK airports don’t allow a wet wash on the apron, so the aircraft either needs a wash bay or a waterless dry wash. A dry wash can be done wherever the aircraft is parked, but on a very dirty aircraft it takes longer. You can read more in our guide to the aircraft dry wash.

6. Paint correction and protection

If the paint is dull or covered in swirl marks, it needs machine polishing. A light, one-stage polish is quicker than multi-stage correction on oxidised paint. A protective sealant or longer-life coating adds to the cost, but it keeps the aircraft cleaner for longer and makes future cleans quicker.

7. Location and access

Working airside means passes, escorts, briefings and sometimes handling fees from the airport, FBO or private-jet terminal. Travel to the aircraft is part of it too. Some airports are simple to access; others, particularly the busier London airports, take more arranging.

8. Timing

Work during normal hours is the most straightforward. Evenings, weekends or a tight turnaround between flights may need a bigger team or out-of-hours working, which affects the price.

How we price a job

Because every aircraft is different, we don’t believe in one fixed price list. Instead we work like this:

  • A clear range up front. We give you a price for the aircraft in reasonable condition, and a maximum for the worst case, so you know the limits from the start.
  • A condition survey. Before any work starts, we look over the aircraft with you or your crew and record its condition and any existing damage.
  • A confirmed price in writing. We confirm the final price before we begin, and it never goes above the maximum we quoted.

All of our quotes are clear and itemised, so you can see exactly what you’re paying for.

How to keep the cost down

  • Clean little and often. Regular cleans stop dirt building up, so each visit is quicker and cheaper.
  • Combine it with maintenance. If the aircraft is already in a hangar for work, it can be detailed at the MRO at the same time, with no extra downtime and simpler access.
  • Protect the paint. A sealant or coating means dirt comes off more easily next time.
  • Book ahead. Planned work in normal hours is always easier to schedule than a last-minute turnaround.

Real jobs show how this works in practice. On a recent Bombardier Global, we carried out a full interior detail while the aircraft was already with our partnering MRO, so the owner didn’t lose any extra time on the ground.

Getting an accurate quote

The quickest way to an accurate price is to tell us:

  • the aircraft type, and the registration if you’re happy to share it
  • where the aircraft is: the airport, FBO, MRO or hangar
  • what you’d like done: interior, exterior wash, exterior detail, or all three
  • when it’s next flying, and any dates that suit
  • a few photos, if you have them, so we can see the condition

Common questions about aircraft cleaning costs

Why can’t you give a price without seeing the aircraft?

Two aircraft of the same type can need very different amounts of work, depending on their condition. We give you a range straight away, then confirm the exact price after a condition survey, so you only pay for what the aircraft actually needs.

Will the price go up once the work has started?

No. We confirm the final price in writing before any work begins, and it never goes above the maximum in your quote.

Is it cheaper to book interior and exterior together?

Usually, yes. The set-up, access and travel are shared, so booking them together tends to work out better value than separate visits.
